Marika LaFemina, L.Ac. is a certified pediatric Acupuncturist and Co-founder of Golden Light Acupuncture PC. She focuses her practice on working with children of all ages, but is also very passionate about women’s health, fertility, pre- and post-natal care and sports medicine. In addition to her training as a physical therapist in Austria, Marika spent three years studying Shiatsu massage in Melbourne, Australia and completed a 200-hrs Ashtanga Yoga certificate in Goa, India.
Born in Malaysia to a Japanese mother and an Austrian father, Marika lived in many different cities and speaks five languages. Kevin Borden began organizing in Missoula, Montana in 1995 with Montana People’s Action as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. He was the Missoula District organizer and worked on housing justice campaigns. He also led the Bozeman and Missoula Chapter membership drives for MPA. From 1996 to 2000, he was the Lead Organizer of Idaho Community Action Network while based in Boise, Idaho. He was responsible for directing ICAN’s health care campaigns which included working with leadership from across the state to win the adoption and expansion of Idaho’s Children’s Health Insurance Program and successfully worked with leaders in Boise to win Idaho’s first-ever charity care agreement with Boise’s largest hospital, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center. Kevin was responsible for the re-building ICAN’s chapters in 7 cities across the state, including Burley, Idaho. The Burley Chapter of ICAN became the foundational basis for a successful push to include farm workers under the state’s minimum wage law. In 2000, he worked for the Northwest Federation of Community Organizations and led their income support ‘testing projects’ which were designed to analyze the racial barriers when signing up for the Food Stamp and Medicaid programs. From 2001 to 2004, he was a National Field Organizer with the National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support (NCJIS), a sponsored project by the Center for Community Change. He was responsible for oversight of NCJIS’s direct action engagements which included actions on the Heritage Foundation, Haliburton, and a march to deliver demands to former President George W. Bush’s ranch in Waco, Texas. From 2003 to 2006, Kevin took time off from organizing to be closer to his parents and founded an environmentally friendly carpentry business. In 2007, he returned to organizing as the Lead Organizer for CCC’s Campaign for Community Values. Starting in 2012, he was responsible for putting together the initial stages of CCC’s Manufactured Home Owner Project, now known as MHAction. He currently resides in New Paltz, New York with his partner, Teresa Horgan, and spends his free time chasing around two energetic boys, Finnbar and Cormac.
